Meet Mrs. Claus and Make a Craft! — Homemade Cinnamon Ornaments
Class experience
Does your child enjoy crafts and Christmas? In this personalized, one-time class, Mrs. Claus herself will use an old family recipe to teach your child how to make and decorate cinnamon ornaments! This is more than a crafts class; it's a magical experience! Parents will send information before class so Mrs. Claus can interact with each child personally. Your child will be amazed to learn that Mrs. Claus knows about family members, beloved pets, favorite toys, Christmas wishes, and more! When...
I have been acting and storytelling most all my life, and began portraying Mrs. Claus 7 years ago. I love it!
Cinnamon (1 cup) Applesauce (3/4 cup) Measuring cups Spoons Small rubber or silicone spatula Waxed paper or paper plate Any flat, straight edge for leveling (a spatula or ruler will work) A gallon-sized zipper bag Rolling pin 2- or 3-inch cookie cutters Plastic or metal drinking straw Parchment paper Two 1/4-inch dowel rods (optional, but highly recommended) Plastic wrap (optional) Toothpicks Thin cookie spatula Scissors Baking sheets OR wire racks The following items will be used after class to paint and decorate the ornaments. Paintbrushes Acrylic craft paint (WARNING: This stains! Tempera or other paints can also be used, but the colors will be dull.) Ribbon for hanging Glue (optional) Desired embellishments—buttons, glitter pens, etc. (optional)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
SUPERVISION REQUIRED: Learners will need to be supervised at all times. Children should not try to eat the dry cinnamon; it's possible that they could gag, cough, and possibly inhale it. The dough, though made of common food items, is not meant to be eaten. It smells so good that young children may be tempted to eat it and may gag or choke. (The flavor is very strong.) Also, young children must be supervised while using the drinking straw. SAFETY NOTE: It is recommended that only adults take baking sheets/pans in and out of the oven. If your child wants to feel included on this step, you could place the pan on the rack, then your child could wear a long oven mitt and use a stick like this to push the pan into the oven: https://www.amazon.com/Fox-Run-9120-Kitchen-Ruler/dp/B000BRNF7M/ (Do NOT use the stick to remove pan from oven. Again, only an adult should remove pans from the oven.) Alternatively, you could let the ornaments air dry. ALLERGEN INFORMATION: We will be handling cinnamon and applesauce.
