Students will meet my dog, Chimi, and have a class discussion about different types of dogs. Students are also welcome to show and tell their pet if they have one. We will look at examples of Kawaii style art, noticing the simple shapes and expressions. Students will then draw one or more dogs Kawaii style, adding details, cute expressions, and a background of their choice. Students will be guided step by step while being encouraged to add their own ideas to their art. Are the dogs having a party? Is your dog at the park? What is their personality like? At the end of class, students can share what they created and talk about the process.
Learning Goals
Students will use using simple shapes and expressions to draw Kawaii style dogs, accessories, and other animals if desired. Students will learn drawing techniques such as using less pressure to draw softer lines, overlapping shapes to draw animals, and how to show texture.
