1-2 hours per week. Students will spend some time finding current media that fits the standards we learned in class.

Class Experience

US Grade 8 - 12
This class will use Nearpod to share videos, articles, and activities to help student understand the following concepts. The students will then explore their learning further by interacting  with Padlet and Flipgrid. 

This FLEX class is great for students who want to dig into how the media affects our everyday lives--both directly and indirectly. Students will understand bias, manipulation, importance of the freedom of press, propaganda and many other nuances that make up the media that comes at them from all sides.

 recognize the many roles of the media 
Lesson 2:
Journalism
 understand what standards-based journalism looks like 
Lesson 3:
Bias
 learn the types of bias and that we all have it 
Lesson 4:
Evaluating Evidence by Evaluating the Media
 learn the tricks that media can play to manipulate its audience into believing something 

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Students are asked to seek out various forms of media. Please discuss with your child the safety guidelines of searching on the Internet. This class also uses third-party tools like Nearpod, Flipgrid, and Padlet.
