In this 7 week class we will learn about the basics of physics and how it relates to the functioning of planes, trains, cars and other machines.
Class experience
-Physics explains how the world works in a way that helps engineers design planes, cars, helicopters etc. In this class we will learn about thrust, speed, gravity and other principles that engineers use to improve their designs and make them function more efficiently. -The class structure for each week will involve an introduction to a different principle such as speed, friction and thrust. We will then complete a hands on project to explore our new knowledge. -For homework, students...
-Students will understand Newtons Laws of Motion and how they apply to planes, trains, automobiles, roller coasters and helicopters. -Students will be able to explain motion, force, thrust, lift, drag, weight, gravity, and speed. -Students will be able to describe the connection between the physical objects that they create and the principles we discuss in class.
During my time working in Montessori schools I was given the opportunity to design and implement a summer camp program that integrated scientific and cultural exploration with hands-on projects. One of our camp sessions was a STEM camp that covered the basic laws of physics (Newton's laws of motion) and then provided campers with an experiential opportunity to apply what they had learned. It was a joy to teach and assist my students as they conquered these previously uncharted territories and I am only too happy to replicate that adventure here on Outschool.
