Class Experience

Join me on the high seas and help me find the hidden treasure! In this one-time class, students will practice measuring objects using non-standard units such as paper clips, buttons, and building blocks. While sailing out at sea, learners will come across many obstacles such as waterfalls and volcanos which require them to move their bodies, and complete measurement tasks before we can continue to look for the hidden treasure.
The content of this class is displayed in a slideshow format and will include many opportunities for students to share their ideas and listen to their peers.
We will spend time learning important techniques to get an accurate measurement as well as choosing the most appropriate-sized item to use as a measurement tool.
Students are asked to bring a collection of small objects to class which they can use as non-standard units of measure. This can include marshmallows, paper clips, Cheerios, small blocks, etc. Please ensure that each object in their collection is the same size so students can complete the task accurately.
Students will receive a printable activity 24 hours before class begins. Students are invited to bring this activity to work on and complete after the class is over. Students will also be given a fun hands-on challenge at the end of our class to continue practicing the concepts we have learned. Completion of these activities is not mandatory, but they are included as an opportunity to extend learning.
I encourage and welcome all learners in my classroom. Students do not need to have any prior knowledge to participate in this class as it is an introductory class. Through hands-on activities, sharing and movement, students will have fun and learn at the same time!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello everyone! My name is Danielle. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Child and Youth Development as well as a Bachelor of Education degree. I am a certified teacher qualified to teach Kindergarten-Grade 6. I also have additional specialized qualifications in Reading and Primary Education and have taken numerous professional development courses focusing on literacy and mathematics. I also have my TESOL certification for teaching English. I consider myself to be a continuous and lifelong learner and am committed to embracing the challenge of professional growth in order to provide your child with the best possible learning experiences.
Over the past 8 years, I have been a classroom teacher and have taught many grades. I currently teach Literacy, Math, and Science to Junior and Senior Kindergarten students. I knew that I wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember and it is truly my passion. I strive to create innovative classes that keep my students engaged while learning at the same time. For the past 3 years, I have also been teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) to students through an online platform. I have taught thousands of ESL classes in person and online. I have taught English to students from all over the world including China, Peru, Mongolia, South Korea, Malaysia, Brazil, and Japan. It can be difficult for young children to learn through a computer screen, however, this experience has strengthened my ability to be an engaging teacher even while teaching virtually. I keep my students engaged by utilizing technology, incorporating movement when possible, making the content relatable, and learning through hands-on experiences.
I am a mother to a 3.5-year-old boy and an almost 1-year-old girl. As a parent, I know how important it is to feel informed when it comes to your child’s education. For this reason, I make open communication with parents and guardians a priority. Please feel comfortable contacting me, through the Outschool platform, if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s learning experience in my classes. I am passionate about embracing my students’ eagerness to learn and to enhance their growth as individuals. I encourage and welcome all learners in my classroom and would love to teach, have fun and learn with your child!
