Meaningful Vocabulary and Spelling in Conversation: Everyday Language Made Easy! (Grades 4-6)
The focus of this discussion-focused group class is to actively learn and practice vocabulary and spelling for general life and academics. The focus of this class will be on learning roots and using words in natural conversation.

This course is appropriate for advanced 3rd graders, and on-pace 4th through 6th graders. Students are exposed to about 10-15 new words per week. This method of teaching vocabulary and spelling goes beyond the traditional approach of simply assigning words for the week and was created with well-grounded research on what students need to develop a rich vocabulary. •Focuses on making connections between new vocabulary and personal experiences, rather than simply memorizing a list of generic definitions and words. •Allows students several opportunities to play with words and their meanings, thinking deeply about how words can change meanings based on the context in which they appear. •Teaches students to notice word meanings and how those meanings impact the overall message of a text or oral conversation. Students learn spelling word patterns •Helps students understand the value of having a rich vocabulary.
