1 hour per week. Each week, students will be asked to practice writing their vocabulary words 5 times in pinyin and simplified characters. For week 7 and 8, students will write a skit or short story and present it to the class on Week 8.Class Experience
In MC 102, students will continue to expand their Mandarin Chinese vocabularies that they learned from the previous class, MC 101. Therefore, students with basic knowledge of Chinese (can read and write pinyin) are more encouraged to take this course. Here are the topics for the 8-weeks: 1) Greetings - Hello, Goodbye, how are you, etc. - Learn the pinyin and characters for those - Use in a conversation context - Reading materials (skits) provided 2) Self-introduction - What is your name?/My name is... - Practice conversing using the words from the previous lesson and this lesson's 3) Numbers and Colors - 1 to 100 - Simple addition and subtraction problems - Write them in pinyin and characters 4) Calendar - How to say the dates, "weekday", "weekend" - Write them in pinyin and characters 5) Family - Mother, Father, Brother, Sister, etc. - Create a family tree together - Write them in pinyin and characters 6) Weather - Learn how to say "rain", "sunny", and more - Write in pinyin and characters - Create more sentences together using all the words they've learned from previous lessons 7) Feelings - Learn how to say "happy", "sad", "mad", etc. - Write them in pinyin and characters 8) Presentation - Each student will present their final skit or short story in class.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to have basic conversations in Mandarin Chinese, as well as how to read and write more words in pinyin and simplified characters.

Ms. Teyen has been a Mandarin Chinese Teacher since 2014. She has taught it to all ages, from the youngest at 3 to the oldest in high school. She has taught both Simplified and Traditional Characters before. Ms. Teyen has also studied abroad in Taiwan (her home country) during her Junior year of college where she participated in a foreign language exchange program to learn more Mandarin Chinese. She also studied it all four years in high school and received a 5 on her AP Chinese exam.
