Class Experience
US Grade 3
What will be taught? In this online class, we will explore three main areas using Numicons: - Patterns and Algebra - Recognizing and creating patterns - Understanding and using basic algebraic concepts - Developing problem-solving skills through pattern recognition - Numbers and Number System - Understanding place value - Counting in various increments (e.g., 2s, 5s, 10s) - Comparing and ordering numbers - Recognizing odd and even numbers Calculating Basic addition and subtraction Introduction to multiplication and division Using Numicons to visualize and solve arithmetic problems What topics will you cover? Patterns and Algebra Identifying repeating patterns Creating patterns with Numicons Simple algebraic expressions and equations Numbers and Number System Place value (units, tens, hundreds) Counting sequences and skip counting Understanding and identifying number properties Calculating Addition and subtraction using Numicons Introduction to multiplication (arrays) and division (grouping) Solving word problems with Numicons How is your class structured? The class is structured into interactive sessions with a mix of activities to keep the learners engaged: Introduction Brief overview of the day's topic Explanation of key concepts Interactive Teaching Demonstrations using Numicons Guided practice with examples Activities and Practice Hands-on activities with Numicons Games to reinforce learning Review and Q&A Recap of key points How will you teach? Interactive Demonstrations: Using Numicons to visually demonstrate concepts and solutions. Guided Practice: Working through problems together with the learners. Hands-on Activities: Encouraging learners to use their own Numicon sets to explore and solve problems. Games and Challenges: Incorporating educational games to make learning fun and engaging. Discussion and Q&A: Allowing time for learners to ask questions and discuss what they've learned. What's your teaching style? My teaching style is interactive and student-centered. I focus on - Engagement: Using a variety of methods to keep learners actively involved. Visual Learning: Leveraging Numicons for visual and tactile learning experiences. Encouragement: Providing positive reinforcement to build confidence. Flexibility: Adapting lessons based on learner needs and feedback. Interactive Learning: Encouraging participation through questions, discussions, and collaborative activities. How much will learners get to interact with you? Learners will have multiple opportunities to interact with me throughout the class: Lecture Segments: Short, focused explanations with interactive questions. Games and Activities: Interactive games and challenges where learners can participate actively. Using multimedia to illustrate concepts, with pauses for discussion and questions. Discussion: Regular opportunities for learners to ask questions and share their thoughts. Hands-on Practice: Guided practice sessions where I assist learners in real-time as they work with their Numicons.
