In this fun maths class, you will come and listen to a short fairytale story at the start of the week and then learn that written numbers represent different amounts of fairytale objects that can be added, subtracted, create patterns and be sequenced. You will complete fairytale maths worksheets (addition, sequencing, patterns, subtraction) that are all based upon the stories you have heard! During week beginning 6th September 2021, you will listen to the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and...
You will learn in a fun way that written numbers can represent an amount of relevant fairytale characters and objects. The worksheets will all be related to the stories you have heard at the start of the week. You will learn how to add numbers together, how to continue patterns, how to sequence stories, and how to subtract!
I have been teaching primary aged children for more years than I care to think about (!) and specialised in the Early Years Foundation Stage. I already teach early years maths (along with Next Step maths) and wanted to introduce the topic to children in a slightly different, fun way. Fairytale maths will appeal to everyone and using familiar characters will help children to understand that numbers are nothing to be scared of.
To finish the worksheet begun in class if you haven't finished it during the lesson.
Children will need a pencil to write with, an eraser, colouring pencils, and on occasion, counters to help them visualise the concepts of addition and subtraction.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour 40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
All materials will be provided by me and should be downloaded and printed for the children each week.
Learning through fun!
