This camp will help students revise fractions, decimals, and percentages while providing an opportunity for English Language immersion. This camp is designed to help students in upper primary/elementary school review key concepts in fractions and decimals so that they grow both in understanding and confidence. From an English language perspective, we will use maths problems to introduce new mathematical vocabulary as well as to practice using more common words in English, such as introducing ourselves, describing our families, and sharing a favourite toy. Each day will include an icebreaker, a game, and time spent discussing and working with the main topic. I use lots of practical examples, pictures, and discussion to help students engage with the topic concretely before moving toward abstract problems. My class will be conversational, upbeat, and as visual and hands on as possible. Students will be encouraged to interact throughout the class, practice using and understanding English, and actively working problems.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the meaning of equivalent fractions.
Students will understand the relationship between fractions and decimals, and perform basic arithmetic with them.
