US Grade 9 - 11
This is an ongoing class which is designed to provide additional support and practice for Year 10 and 11 students who plan on sitting the Higher Level GCSE or iGCSE paper. The goal is to help students strengthen their understanding of key concepts, improve their problem-solving skills, and build a solid foundation for GCSE and iGCSE maths. The curriculum of this course aligns closely with the GCSE and IGCSE curriculums, ensuring that students are well-prepared for their school exams and future academic endeavors. Each week, we will introduce and explore new topics, starting with the fundamentals and gradually progressing to more challenging concepts. Through a combination of explained examples, questioning and independent practice, and interactive activities, we aim to make mathematics enjoyable and accessible for all students. Students will have amble opportunities to ask questions throughout the lessons. Students can join the course at any time during the year, however if that weeks content is completely new to them it is helpful if they complete the pras each week focuses on a new topic. We will review any necessary prerequisite knowledge at the beginning of each session, ensuring that everyone is on the same page. GCSE and IGCSE Mathematics focuses on developing a strong foundation in number, algebra, geometry, and statistics. Students will learn about integers, decimals, fractions, percentages, ratio, and proportion, as well as algebraic expressions, equations, inequalities, and graphs. They will also explore geometric shapes, angles, area, perimeter, and volume, and delve into data handling, averages, and probability. By mastering these key concepts, students will be well-prepared for their exams Students will be provided with extra practice and follow up resources between sessions. For students who need extra individual attention, we also offer one-on-one support sessions that can be scheduled upon request. Week of 4 November: HCF, LCM, prime factor decomposition, exam style questions Week of 11 November: Algebra: expanding brackets, factorising expressions, algebraic fractions Week of 18 November: Algebra: solving quadratic equations, using the quadratic formula Week of 25 November: Algebra: simultaneous equations, inequalities Week of 2 December: Functions: function notation, inverse functions, composite functions Week of 9 December: Geometry: properties of shapes (2D and 3D), Pythagoras' theorem, Week of 16 December: Trigonometric ratios (sin, cos, tan)
Learning Goals
To develop a strong foundation in mathematics for the GCSE/IGCSE Higher level by providing additional practice. Students will have improved their understanding of key mathematical concepts, enhanced their problem-solving skills, and gained confidence.
