What makes a code harder to guess? What strategies help you break the code fastest? How can we change the game to make it harder, easier, or more exciting? In the Mathematics of Games series we’ll explore different games (typically tabletop) and the mathematics that drives them, analyzing probabilities, discussing how to maximize a strategy, and consider the implications of variations on the game. Students with play the games (as much as possible in the class), explore the mathematics,...
I love math and I love games, but most of all I love learning through passions. Play is such an amazing way to learn.
After each class, puzzles and problems are sent home. At the end of a course, a resource list will also be provided. Student may find it useful to own some version of Mastermind - an inexpensive knock-off is perfectly fine. Other students may be just fine playing with paper and pencil or online.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
