In this 4-week FLEX course, students will solve a variety of puzzles to strengthen pre-algebra skills (whole number operations, solving equations, order of operations). Enrichment provided as needed.
Class experience
US Grade 4 - 7
Students will complete a variety of math puzzles and activities to strengthen and practice basic math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). These activities will also provide practice with algebraic concepts such as order of operations, solving equations, identifying math fact families and identifying and graphing ordered pairs. The objectives will be to: -solve one and two step equations (or use mental math) to solve emoji puzzles -create math expressions using the order of operations to create 24 -identify and graph ordered pairs -develop fluency in addition and multiplication by identifying math facts
I LOVE math, and I LOVE puzzles that require critical thinking! I make it a goal to find creative and interesting ways to deliver instruction while helping students build their math sense. This course will allow learners to practice, strengthen and grow at their own pace in a more engaging way than numerous skill and drill worksheets.
Homework Offered
Because this is a flex class, "homework" will be for students to complete all activities in the lesson prior to the release of the subsequent lessons. Students will be encouraged to collaborate with classmates to discuss the different strategies and solutions for the puzzles.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class

Feedback will be provided on our class Padlet page. Students can also provide feedback to each other via Google docs.Grades Offered
Graph paper would be nice to have, but I will provide a template of graph paper that students can use to create their pictures.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
