Description
Class Experience
***This is a FLEX Course. This class will help students better understand math by presenting multiple examples of the weekly math topics, encouraging collaboration (if more than one student is enrolled), and finally will make them more confident in solving math problems. We will follow this seasonal schedule: The week of December 19th Snow Man, The week of December 26th: The Ice Skating Reindeer, The week of January 2nd: The Polar Bear The week of January 9th: The Penguin Each week...
While having fun, students will work on: - building up their math skill on plotting points on coordinate grid, - differing between the x and the y-coordinate, the x-axis and y-axis, as well as the origin (0,0) - drawing symmetry figures, plotting symmetrical point to a give point, - introducing the concept of area, - drawing conclusions about the area of symmetrical figures, - performing translations, rotations and rotations using hands-on activity and virtual activities as well, - building up their math skills on recognizing similar and congruent shapes, and different 2-D shapes, - improving their spatial visualization skills, - refining hand-eye coordination, - improving their concentration, - boosting their brain activity, - encouraging systematic thinking, - improving their problem-solving skills and - building their confidence.
After they are done with their coloring completely (during the class or after), they should submit their work to the classroom wall.
You will need: - Origami paper, or you will need to trim some away form the regular paper for proper origami paper, - Blank paper and pencil, - color pencils and/or markers, - ruler, - scissors and paper glue, - worksheets which should be printed prior class and used in the class (will be attached to the classroom wall), the worksheets will be in color, but the color -print is just optional, please let me know if you would like to get the black-and-white version of the worksheets, I would be happy to attach them to the classroom wall.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
No live meetings, and maybe some time outside of class.
The learners will maybe need to use scissors to cut out some shapes. Parental observation might be needed.
Worksheets will be attached to the classroom wall together with the video of the lesson every Sunday evening at 9pm PST. The video will be uploaded to YouTube, and then I will provide the link to it.
