I wanted to let you know that I have been an elementary school teacher for 34 years. I enjoy teaching math and literacy. The bulk of my experience has been teaching Math and Literacy to elementary students. I have experience in many types of classroom settings from small to large group instruction, as well as intervention tiered instruction.
Although there is no homework for this class. Your child is left with a foundation to build upon in understanding numeration. By using their newly acquired math toolkit Place Value Chart they are able to practice independently and play the computer game to reinforce their place value knowledge.
4 files available upon enrollmentPrinted place value chart - I will provide you through downloadable document on Outschool. Link to Google slides-Activity , and a Google form. Dry erase marker with a tissue or dry marker eraser 1-Sheet protectors- clear plastic to use as a write and wipe activity. Any dollar store might have them. Sheet Protectors are great for your write and wipe activities. No need to by expensive, fancy white boards that cost a lot of money. These work great and can be repurposed in so many ways. You print a document and slide it in. You can write on it with a dry erase marker and wipe it off.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Your child will be given small informal formative assessments to assess their knowledge and understanding in place values to the thousands throughout the lesson.I will assess their progress through observation of their mathematical thinking during the share and show segment of the lesson. Also during independent group work, and a short student survey/ Exit ticket given at the end of the class.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
The materials presented in this lesson have been created by me. I do introduce the concept of place value using a quick (ad free) YouTube video about place value.
