Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - 6
Beginner - Advanced Level
I'm a certified K-8th teacher in the State of Washington. I follow the California Dept of Education's Mathematics Common Core standards on what is expected for a student from K through 8th grade, and the California Dept of Education's guidelines for Pre-K. Please see below for the standards that are expected in the different grade levels. I am also open to using the time as a Homework Helper instead, helping them with their homework or teaching them concepts parents may not understand or have the time to help with. Just let me know if you want homework help; specific concepts taught and practiced/mastered, or for me to follow the Common Core Standards to teach them math.

This is a one-on-one tutoring class so, we will be progressing at the level your child is able to pace themselves at with one-on-one instruction but making sure they actually understand and successfully complete the concepts we work on so they build a great foundation for further mathematics studies. Right now, this is open to Pre-K through 6th grade but I may have openings in the future for 7th and 8th as well.

Also, if parents want more than a 30-minute weekly session, you can sign up for as many as you want in a week...or multiple ones in a day. The sessions are designed as 30 minutes long so that students get a break, even if they sign up for two back-to-back classes.

Here is an overview of topics we'll be covering based on the age and ability of your child. Students who are advanced will move on to more appropriate concepts. The Pre-K information is from the California Dept of Education's standards. The K-8th summaries are the Common Core Standard overviews for the state of California.

Pre-K: The mathematics foundations cover the following five strands:
Number Sense, which includes an understanding of counting, number relationships, and operations
Algebra and Functions (Classification and Patterning), which focuses on sorting and classifying objects and recognizing and understanding simple, repeating patterns
Measurement, which includes comparison and ordering
Geometry, which focuses on the properties of objects (shape, size, position) and the relation of objects in space
Mathematical Reasoning, which addresses how young children use mathematical thinking to solve everyday problems

Learning Goals
Students will learn the math concepts expected in grades K-7th, based on the State of Washington's Mathematics Standards. They will also have help with homework if needed, so they understand and learn how to be successful in their own school math program.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Washington Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I'm a certified K-8th teacher with decades of experience teaching children, most often in K-3rd grades. I have subbed all grades, though, from Preschool-12th grade, and have regularly taught ages 3-18, online, for over four years now, and more than 50,000 online classes (on other platforms) in multiple subjects. I was also a director of a daycare center before going back to school to do a Master's in Teaching Program (Summa Cum Laude). I have a bachelor's degree in Business Administration: Accounting, and I even went to law school! Teaching is my passion, though!
