Math talks are an excellent way to develop number sense and computational fluency. In this ongoing class, learners will engage in mathematical conversations that will make their mathematical reasoning and mental math abilities stronger. They will have fun thinking about the problems presented and hearing the many different ways that the problem can be solved. There is not just one way to solve these problems, so they will learn to think flexibly about numbers. *This class does not have...

Learners will develop their mental math strategies for solving problems with all four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
Many different strategies will be seen in our math talks. To name a few:
-Making Ten, Landmark Numbers
-Doubles/Near Doubles, Place Value Understanding, Multiplicative Comparisons, Fractional Comparisons
-Making Ten, Adding Up in Chunks, Prime Numbers, Multiplication
-Adding Up, Friendly Numbers, Place Value, Finding Factors
-Doubling and Halving, Partial Products, Algebraic Thinking, Fractional Thinking
-Partial Quotients, Algebraic Thinking, Comparing Fractions, Area
-Repeated Subtraction Strategy, Multiplication, Division, Rounding
-Rounding Numbers, Creating Equations, Partial Quotients, Partial Products, Fractional Comparisons
-Comparing Equations, Finding Factors, Word Problems, Algebraic Thinking, Proportional Reasoning

No supplies are required. However, these optional items may be helpful to think out problems.
