What will be taught: Terms to remember: subtract, minus, and the difference. Word problems: What key words to look for in word problems, and some practice doing word problems. How to check our answers How to subtract two digits, three digits etc. How to subtract unequal place in subtraction Subtraction by addition: subtraction can be performed by thinking of it as a related addition problem. For example: Suppose you purchase something that the amount is $8.78 from $10.00, some people would treat this as an addition bill. Instead of subtracting $8.78 from $10.00, some people would treat this as an addition example. They would would keep adding to $8.78 until they got to $10.00. Some exercises will be given for the student to practice. There will be a short quiz, some discussions, some games to practice the lesson. Students do not need any previous knowledge, or required experiences.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their knowledge of subtraction, learn about taking away, the symbol (- ) which means subtract, digits having the same place values are lined up in columns before subtraction, numbers are subtracted by pairs only, and students learn how to exchange when it is impossible to subtract in any column. Lastly, word problems, and terms.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Parental guidance is helpful in case of technical difficulty or help for logging on to the zoom. Students do not need any expensive toys, furnishings or other items. They do need well designed space that is safe for the student to do activities/projects. Parental guidance is necessary incase student needs help with an activity with guidance. Such as gluing, cutting with scissors etc. There are no third party websites that will be used for each week for the lessons or signing in for accounts.
