Advanced Level
Help your child be a successful learner next school year! If your child just finished 2nd or 3rd grade, this is the class for them. In this class I will cover the most important math concepts in 3rd and 4th grade, in just 10 weeks! This class covers part 1 of the ten weeks. The class is taught by a teacher with a Florida School Board certifications in K-6 Math with ESOL, Reading Endorsements, and K-12 in Exceptional Student Education. Students are highly advised to memorize multiplication tables 0-12 by the start of week 2. 📖 Class Session Agenda Lesson - 10 minutes Modeling word problems - 10 minutes Answering questions -10 minutes Independent Work - 10 minutes Review independent work- 10 minutes Exit ticket - 5 minutes 📆 Class Syllabus Topics covered in Part 1 of 4th Grade Math: -----Week 1------ Day 1: Place Value Day 2: Multi-digit Addition and Subtraction Day 3: Rounding whole numbers -----Week 2------ Day 4: Arrays (Intro to multiplication) Day 5: Multiplying one digit numbers Day 6: Multiplying by ten -----Week 3------ Day 7: Area models Day 8: Multiplying by ten Day 9: Factors and multiples -----Week 4------ Day 10: Generating and analyzing patterns Day 11: Fractions Review Day 12: Review Part 1 - Quiz]Week 4- Day 10: Generating and analyzing patterns Day 11: Fractions Review Day 12: Adding and subtracting fractions -----Week 5------ Day 13: Multiplying Fractions Day 14: End of Part 1 Review - Kahoot Day 15: End of Part 1 - Kahoot, and Quiz (Google Forms) Important Notes: -Homework will be provided each day to help students review the concepts covered in class. -Students should have access to Kahoot for reviews. -Students will use a teacher created Google Form in the last class for the final quiz.
Learning Goals
At the end of this 5 class series, students will have a basic understanding of how to use variables and math compputations on Python. Students will also be ready for my level 3 series to continue their pathway to preparing for the Python Programming MTA certification.

Students will need to have two devices for this class. One of the devices must be a computer or 💻 laptop will be used for coding. The other device can be a phone or tablet which will be used to access the class on Outschool.

Lauren Smith is a certified teacher in exceptional student education with a Masters in Instructional Design and specializations in reading, and English for speakers of other languages, as well as students with autism in grades K-12. She is also certified in education from birth through four years old and is a certified teacher of the gifted for grades K-12.
Having had the privilege of working with students across various age groups and cultural backgrounds, Lauren has taught coding, reading, and mathematics to elementary, middle, and high school children from around the world. Her enthusiasm for both general and special education settings is palpable, and she currently teaches 5th grade at a public school in Hollywood, FL in the United States of America.
Beyond the classroom, Lauren is a mother of three, ages nine, twelve, and sixteen. Her personal experience as a parent, especially to a child with special needs, fuels her passion for inclusive education. Lauren's teaching philosophy centers around the belief in a growth mindset, asserting that, with the right tools, children can master any concept and achieve expertise from a young age.
In her coding classes, Lauren seamlessly integrates math and coding concepts, empowering students to create their own video games and animations through computer code while organically learning mathematical principles. Her joy lies in witnessing her students' faces light up as they discover the possibilities of their newfound knowledge.
As an avid reader herself, Lauren endeavors to instill a love for reading in her students and her own children. Her favorite children's books, ranging from "Wonder" by R. J. Palacio to the "Percy Jackson Series" by Rick Riordan, reflect her diverse literary tastes. Parents often seek her recommendations for captivating reads for children of all ages.
As a bilingual teacher fluent in Spanish, her native language, Lauren enjoys connecting with people from different corners of the globe and delights in practicing basic greetings in various languages. With a dream to travel the world with her family, Lauren Smith continues to inspire, nurture, and celebrate the joy of learning in every student she encounters.

Davy Smith is a dad of three, one boy and two girls who all love to code. He lives in sunny ☀️ Miami, FL with his family. Davy holds a degree in Networks Systems Technologies. He codes on Scratch, HTML, and Python. He has also worked in the broadcasting industry in post production for over 20 years. Mr. Smith is excited to be a part of this amazing team of teachers whose goal is to create a learning environment where kids feel comfortable with making mistakes as they learn. Mr. Smith’s goal is to teach children coding in a fun and laid back environment.

Alberto Rodriguez, our teen Spanish teacher, is a native of Venezuela. He has been living in the United States for over 30 years and worked in the public school system for over 15 years. He aims to teach teens words and phrases in Spanish that they can use in their every day lives. He also knows the importance of learning grammar rules when learning a new language, so he teaches the correct way to write and read Spanish in his classes. Sr. Rodriguez is retired and now lives with his wife in the beautiful and sunny State of Florida.
