This class is meant to help students keep their basic fluency math skills fresh. In this multi-day class we will meet twice a week for 30 minutes to play math games that reinforce the basic math skills of place value, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals. The games will be both whole group and partner style. Games will include examples of math Jeopardy with story problems, basic and multi-digit multiplication memory, multiplication war, math riddles, using dice to create equations and numbers. Each class with begin with a minute math flashcard activity of single digit multiplication facts or single digit division facts. Through game play students will need to justify why they believe the answers to be correct. As a teacher I will be pushing students to dig deeper into their justifications with high level questioning.

Week 1 Day 1- Multiplication Memory- This will be played whole group. Flip a card and find either the answer or the problem to match. This will be played with single digit multiplication and 2 digit by 1 digit problems. Teacher will turn cards that will be shown using a grid for easy recognition of card placement.

Week 1 Day 2- Multiplication War- students will use a deck of cards- flipping 2, more advanced students will flip 3-4, cards at a time. They will multiply numbers together and the one with the higher product will get the point.

Week 2 Day 1- Place Value Math Riddles- students will be given riddles to solve that will lead to a standard digit number. These will be completed in pairs or individually. Place value riddles will go to the 100,000 place.

Week 2 Day 2- Using dice students will roll dice and compete with others to create either the largest or the smallest digit. This can also be played with a deck of cards.- Students will practice writing these numbers in standard and expanded form on their game card.

Week 3 Day 1- Fraction War- Using a deck of cards students will create fractions and compare them to see who has the greater number.

Week 3 Day 2- Factor Concentration- Students will be given a multiple and the first one to pull out the factors by pulling 2 cards simultaneously will earn a point

Week 4 Day 1- Decimal War- Using a deck of cards students will flip and place in a place value grid. Student with the lowest or highest decimal created will earn a point

Week 4 Day 2- Students roll 6 dice and use the dice to create an equation that equals the number given by the teacher. Students can use all operations to create their equation, but must use all digits on the dice. First to create the equation and prove it gets the point.
