Number concepts can be so tricky, but learning to count money is a very practical skill. This class is a review of information that students likely have already learned. In this class, learners will review: pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters. Skip counting numbers by 5s, 10s, and 25s. Students will practice counting coins and choosing the correct coins that are needed to make a purchase. Day 1: Review pictures of the coins, and the value of each coin. Students will also practice counting by 5s, 10s, and 25s, to prepare them for counting coins. Learners will also practice counting groups of similar coins. We will use task cards that I created to practice counting groups of coins. Students will use the "Day 1" page (please print this before class) to practice counting coins. Day 2: The focus of this class will be counting coins that are not the same. We will use the counting strategy that we learned on Day 1, to count coins that have different values. Students will use the "Day 2" page (please print this before class) to practice counting coins. Students should bring coins to class (see below). I will show them a variety of items that are "for sale". Students will need to show me the correct coins that would be needed to buy each item.
