Content Goals: Students will… Create equivalent fractions Convert improper fractions into mixed numbers Convert mixed numbers into improper fractions Add and subtract mixed numbers with like denominators Add and subtract mixed numbers with unlike denominators Solve word problems adding and subtracting mixed numbers with and without like denominators ___________________________________________________________ Language Goals: Students will… Use the symbols +, -, and = when adding and subtracting mixed numbers Explain strategies to convert improper fractions into mixed numbers Explain strategies to convert mixed numbers into improper fractions Write multiplication and division equations to create equivalent fractions Read world problems aloud and silently Write their answers in complete sentences
I have 11 years of experience teaching students with disabilities, students who are English language learners, and students from multiracial communities who were more than 1 year below grade level expectations in mathematics. I hold Master of Education degrees in Elementary Education and Special Education. I am a licensed Elementary and Special Education teacher in the District of Columbia. I am an educational consultant that leads trainings for parents/caregivers, students, educators, and school leaders on strategies for mindfulness, focus, and relaxation within the classroom.
Homework will be sent via the Classroom Post at the end of each class. Homework should take no more than 10min.-20min. Some homework assignments have different choices to give students agency in what their homework will be. All homework is independent.

In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Students are assessed using exit tickets, teacher observations, and online math programs. Grades will be communicated on a weekly basis using a point system (e.g. 2/2 points is equivalent to a 100%).
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Mindfulness, Focus, & Relaxation strategies include: online scavenger hunts, listening to calming instrumental music while breathing deeply, freeze dance, and basic chair stretches. Please ensure your learner has enough space to move a little while in this class. Additionally, the scavenger hunt prompts are: -Find something in your house that is round (safe choices: basketball or soccer ball) -Find something in your house that makes a sound (safe choices: radio or age-appropriate toy) -Find something in your house that makes colors (safe choices: finger paint or crayons) ____________________________________________________________________ The site we will use for some of our practice examples is Khan Academy. Students must create their own Khan Academy accounts. Students will log into their account to complete assigned lessons. The teacher does not have access to students' accounts. The teacher will verbally check-in with students on their progress on Khan Academy during class or via the message application on Outschool. Parents/caregivers can always view their learner's progress on Khan Academy after class ends. Google Slides will be used to present the content of the lesson. Google Forms is used to assess students' learning. Students will receive a link to a Google Form for specific lessons as a quiz to determine their progress. There is no login required for this website. All questions are created by the teacher. Whiteboard.fi (an interactive online whiteboard) will be used for students to show their work. The interactive online whiteboards do not require a login. Students will receive a link to access the whiteboard that the teacher locks once all students are in to protect students' privacy and work.
