We see patterns in clothes, footprints, even ocean waves. Recognizing and understanding patterns makes us feel comfortable and calm. In this Pre K/Kinder class we are going to pattern candy! YUM! At the end of class, the student will understand the math term "pattern". The student will be able to recognize common linear patterns. The student will be able to demonstrate how to create and extend simple patterns.
I'm a list-making, planner creating, rule-following, veteran teacher. I love predictable patterns. I have a very detail-oriented eye, and I like things orderly and symmetrical. Patterns are everywhere and I'm excited to show your little one how to look for patterns in our world.
There is no homework for this class.
Each child will need to provide 3 different types of candy for class. I will have 1 small package of Skittles 1 small package of M&M's 1 small package of gummy bears I will use a small tray to hold the candy. You could also use an empty egg carton, or sectional plate to sort the candy If you are not able to bring candy to class you can also do this class with crayons/markers and a sheet of paper. You can draw patterns as we go along.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
25 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
