In this multi-day math camp, students will begin the week by using legos to create base ten blocks. The base ten blocks will be used to make comparisons within the base ten value system. Students will build numbers to the thousand place. Students will manipulate the base ten blocks to add and subtract. For the second lesson, students will use images of base ten blocks to build place value charts. The students will move the pictures around on the place value chart to make a visual representation of two-digit addition and subtraction facts. The base ten blocks help students visualize the concept of borrowing. For the third lesson, students will practice recognizing the correlation between multiplication and addition. Students will use a hundred chart to mark numbers while skip counting. Marking the numbers will make a visual representation of how multiplication is a faster way to add. The fourth lesson will focus on story problems. Students will read simple story problems. They will use the information in the story problem to solve the question.

My elementary background ranges from preschool through seventh grade English. As students progress through the educational system, it is fascinating to be a part of their development academically and emotionally. I strive to be a positive influence by encouraging students to share ideas and keeping classes fun. I love to sing and laugh. I also enjoy writing and literature. Since I was very young, I have been an avid reader. Sharing all of these experiences with students through education brings me so much joy.
