Are you ready for your learner to become a Math Master? In this ongoing lesson series, students will have fun learning about patterns, sorting and geometry. Classes will be interactive and students will be engaged in activities and hands on practice throughout each lesson. Students are invited to join every week or drop in when their schedules allow. Every lesson will begin with an introduction/ greeting by Miss Ella and each student. Each week will focus on a new skill: Week 1: Patterns Supplies Needed: Pattern cards (in 1st classroom post), 15 small objects (3 groups of small objects -ex. 5 pom poms, 5 blocks, 5 popsicle sticks OR 5 green items, 5 blue items, 5 red items) -Students will: -learn 2 different types of patterns -identify patterns of a given set of objects -create different types of patterns using their personal objects. -look for patterns in every day situations. Week 2: Sorting Supplies Needed: A variety of small objects - varying in colour, size and shape (ex. blocks, toys, chips) Students will learn: -that objects can be sorted by colour, size, and shape -sort their objects by colour, size and shape -real life opportunities to sort objects Week 3: 2D Shapes Supplies Needed: 2-D Shape Worksheet, a block/ small object Students will: -Learn the names of 2D shapes. -Count how many sides and corners (vertices) each shape has. -Recognize shapes in real life objects. -Go on a shape hunt in their homes *Note: Your learner may need support in finding 2-D Shapes in your home. Please Note: During teacher instruction and explanations, all learners will be muted.
