***This is an extended version of my Math Marvels Jr. ongoing course. This class meets twice a week to provide an extra day to practice and reinforce each skill.*** **At this point in the course, we are working on early first-grade skills. Please see the calendar of topics listed below to determine whether or not this class will be a good fit for your learner. I do offer classes for pre-k and early kinder, as well as late first/early second.** This fun, interactive class will help your child learn a variety of math skills. ***Please note that this class is appropriate for students who are still learning how to count and recognize numbers. If your child is comfortable in these areas, I offer another math class that might be a better fit. This class covers skills taught in kindergarten and the beginning half of first grade. **Materials for the week will be uploaded to the classroom each Sunday. Learning Goals
Objectives:
-Students will develop strategies for addition and subtraction
-Write numbers from 0-20 and represent those numbers with objects
-Students will compose and decompose numbers from 11 to 19 into ten ones and some further ones, e.g., by using objects or drawings, and record each composition or decomposition by a drawing or equation (such as 18 = 10 + 8); understand that these numbers are composed of ten ones and one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, or nine ones.
-Students will identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in another group, e.g., by using matching and counting strategies
Other Details
Supply List
Students will need pencils, crayons, paper, and the weekly printout. If you are unable to print, activities may be completed on paper. You may print out the counters before class to help them count. If not, they may use small manipulatives such as blocks, beans, coins, etc I will share my screen so students will be able to complete the material with me. Printable activities will be uploaded weekly as we need them.
