Class Experience

US Grade 1
In this ongoing class, students will learn and review first grade math skills. Each week will focus on a different skill and include focused instruction on that skill with opportunities for practice and interaction. 

We will cover the following 1st grade math topics. 

-Counting and Number Sense: Counting to 100, number recognition, counting by 1s, 2s, 5s, and 10s, understanding place value.
-Addition and Subtraction: Basic addition facts up to 10, adding and subtracting within 20, understanding the concept of addition and subtraction.
-Number Patterns: Recognizing and extending patterns, identifying odd and even numbers.
-Basic Shapes and Geometry: Identifying and describing 2D and 3D shapes, recognizing and creating patterns with shapes.
-Measurement: Understanding and comparing lengths, weights, and capacities, telling time to the hour and half hour.
-Data and Graphs: Collecting and organizing data, creating and interpreting simple graphs.
-Money: Identifying and counting coins (pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters), understanding the value of coins.
-Time: Telling time to the hour and half hour using analog and digital clocks, understanding concepts of morning, afternoon, and night.
-Fractions: Introducing basic fractions (half, quarter), understanding parts of a whole.
-Problem Solving: Solving simple word problems involving addition and subtraction, using manipulatives and visual aids to solve problems.

Hi everyone! Welcome to class! I am Miss Kate. I have 15+ years of teaching experience with students ages 2-14 years old. I am passionate about early childhood education and building the foundation for life long learning. My classes will be engaging and focus on a variety of topics including early literacy, early math and life skills. I live in the Pacific Northwest with my husband and 3 (yes, three) big dogs!

I believe in engaging and playful learning and will teach my classes in a fun and interactive way including songs, digital & interactive games, and lots of interaction and opportunities for engagement. 

I am certified to teach K-8 Elementary, K-12 Special Education and Early Childhood Education. In addition, I have a certificate in Child Psychology from Penn Foster, a certificate in Autism Studies from Arizona State University and a certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) from Arizona State University. I love to teach and look forward to meeting your child!
