Class Experience

US Grade 5
In this class, students will have the opportunity to play math games that will serve to strengthen their fifth grade math skills while having fun in a small group. We will practice our multiplication and division as well as fractions using number puzzles, mental math and story problems and will play a variety of games, ranging from math dice games to multiplication and division bingo, sudokus and the game 24. Students should be familiar and comfortable with multiplication and division as well as have had an introduction to working with fractions.

Each session will be catered to the students who are present. The following is an example of the activities we will work with in each ongoing class, which students can join or leave at any time:

First session: Math dice games and story problems, the game 24 and multiplication bingo
Second session: Math dice games and story problems, finding equivalent fractions, the game 24 (with fractions!)
Third session: Math dice games, mixed numbers practice, the game 24, multiplication/division bingo
Fourth session: Math dice games and story problems, long multiplication practice, equivalent fractions bingo
Learning Goals
Students will strengthen and develop their fifth grade math skills while playing games, doing puzzles and through occasional artistic activities. There will be some long multiplication and division practice, with a focus on mental math and work with fractions and decimals. We will utilize story problems, drawings, games and puzzles to engage students and make math practice fun.
