Math Is a Big Joke Algebra Style! Solving One-Step Equations Word Problems
In this one time meeting we will focus on solving one-step word problem equations (including examples with negatives). A decoder puzzle with a funny (maybe corny) joke will be used to reinforce these skills.

Description
Class Experience
By the end of the lesson, students will have reviewed: -operations with integers -inverse operations -math vocabulary
I LOVE math! I love finding creative and interesting ways to deliver instruction while helping students build their math sense. After 25 years of teaching Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, and Algebra 2 to students with a variety of skill levels, including 5 years teaching online to students learning from home, I feel uniquely qualified to provide learners with the tools they need to become masters of mathematics!
No homework will be assigned, however, if we are unable to complete an entire puzzle during class time, the problems will be provided in the classroom for students to finish on their own. The answer to the decoder puzzle will always be shared at the end of class.
Learners should have paper and pencil to work out problems with me. If they need a multiplication chart or calculator as a support, I do not mind them using these materials. A link for an online calculator can be provided upon request.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Feedback will be provided as we work as a whole group. If parents desire a class where individual assessments are part of the course I will direct them to my "Hitting the Highlights Algebra 1" FLEX class, where assessments are a part of the weekly assignment.
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
