Want to answer the question, “What’s a tessellation?” Are you curious about what it has to do with mathematics? Do you want to learn how to create one? In this course, we’ll explore the connection between the math we do and the art we create! This one-time class focuses on geometry and tessellations. All learners are welcome whether you consider yourself an artist, a mathematician, or are just someone who's curious. We learn about tessellations, we'll learn a little bit of geometry, we'll...
We can describe and create tessellations using geometry.
I’ve been a certified math teacher for more than 14 years and have taught math in both elementary and secondary grades.
Optional: Students can choose to write an “Artist’s Statement” about the tessellation they’ve created. This would include what they’ve made, why they chose to make this particular creation, and how (materials/technique) they’ve made their artwork.
Paper, scissors, tape, an index card or sticky note, and something with which to write
We'll take part in a short scavenger hunt.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Students will need scissors.
