This is asynchronous course is designed for individuals who respond well to independent learning structures and /or have accountability support available to ensure participation. If your learner requires more structured support or prefer a more collaborative experience, I highly recommend considering enrollment in my LIVE, synchronous course, where your learner will benefit from real-time instruction and accountability. In eighth grade, students make several advances in their algebraic reasoning, particularly as it relates to linear equations. Students extend their understanding of proportional relationships to include all linear equations, and they consider what a “solution” looks like when it applies to a single linear equation as well as a system of linear equations. They learn that linear equations can be a useful representation to model bivariate data and to make predictions. Functions emerges as a new domain of study, laying a foundation for more in-depth study of functions in high school. Lastly, students study figures, lines, and angles in two-dimensional and three-dimensional space, investigating how these figures move and how they are measured (from fishtanklearning.com) Class Structure: Students learn and practice a NEW 8th grade math skill(s) each week. Each week will conclude with individual feedback for students enrolled! Teaching Style: Student-Centered !!! LOTS of interactive activities, games and discussions !!! Research proves that a student-centered instructional model is key to learning! Interaction Level: Medium to High !!! Students will have an opportunity to engage with me and each other through games, video clips and discussions! It is my first priority to ensure the safety of all students so open chat and open microphone will be limited. All interactive activities are selected to maximize learning while providing a safe environment to do so!
Learning Goals
Students will learn and apply 8th grade standards purposed to prepare them for 9th grade MATH!
