This is asynchronous course is designed for individuals who respond well to independent learning structures and /or have accountability support available to ensure participation. If your learner requires more structured support or prefer a more collaborative experience, I highly recommend considering enrollment in my LIVE, synchronous course, where your learner will benefit from real-time instruction and accountability. In sixth grade, students learn key concepts along the progression toward middle school algebra. Ratios and proportions emerges as a new domain of study, where students explore and reason with ratios and rates in order to solve problems. Sixth graders will also investigate negative numbers for the first time and round out their study of the rational number system before operating with all rational numbers in seventh grade. Work with numerical expressions extends to algebraic expressions, which sets students up to solve one-step equations and inequalities. Students will also continue their study of area and volume of geometric shapes, and will learn how statistics can be used to better understand data about our world (insert from: fishtanklearning.com). Class Structure: Students learn and practice a NEW 6th grade math skill(s) each week. Each week will conclude with individual feedback for students enrolled! Teaching Style: Student-Centered !!! LOTS of interactive activities, games and discussions !!! Research proves that a student-centered instructional model is key to learning! Interaction Level: Medium to High !!! Students will have an opportunity to engage with me and each other through games, video clips and discussions! It is my first priority to ensure the safety of all students so open chat and open microphone will be limited. All interactive activities are selected to maximize learning while providing a safe environment to do so!
Learning Goals
Students will learn and apply 6th grade standards purposed to prepare them for 7th grade MATH!
