This course is designed to meet the needs of the parents that will be doing homeschooling partially or totally during the next Fall semester. The purpose of this course is threefold: 1) To tackle and to cover the key topics and mathematical techniques that are learned in the Common Core Curriculum in Math Grade 5, always keeping in mind the perspective of giving my students the big picture in mathematics and why all these techniques were invented and developed in the first place. 2) To solve key exercises that combine the ideas that are learned in Math Grade 5, put into a practical and real-world application. 3) To write down our lines of thought in a structured and eloquent way, communicating the final answer, together with the necessary intermediate steps that lead us to the conclusion and resolution of a given problem. The dynamic of this class will be to tackle a specific curriculum brought upon by a small group of 2 to 3 students; we will cover key topics in Math Grade 5 as shown below; also the students themselves can send in specific exercises and topics that we will solve in class. Week 1 and 2: Multiplication and Division; Related Word Problems. Week 3 and 4: Decimal Numbers; Place Value; Comparison of Decimal Numbers; Related Word Problems. Week 5 to 7: Fractions; Representation of Fractions; Operations with Fractions; Word Problems. Week 8 and 9: Equations; Translating phrases into numbers; finding sequence relationships. Week 10 and 11: Measurement Conversion; Geometry; Classification of Geometric Figures. Week 12: Review of Key exercises and concepts covered throughout the semester; student's final assignments. If we need extra weeks to complete the final assignments of the students, these can be booked at the end of the semester. My teaching style is interactive, fun, and engaging; my aim is always to inspire my students to find different ways to solve a given setup or configuration, and also to give them the perspective of where these foundational ideas are coming from and the type of problems that are being solved with them today.

Perhaps one of the most important tools I use when solving a problem is to construct a simpler scenario and use that to understand the original problem; this way, everything seems a little bit easier to understand. Our ability to imagine a more straightforward scenario is one of the fundamental tools we can use in math and any other human activity - less is MORE!
The greatest advantage of having a tutor is that you'll have a guide along the way that has travelled through many of the places you are now travelling and can lead you along the way. The idea is to walk together, have fun and improve our math skills!
I've always taken this approach with my students, and it all works out better than we expect in the end!
