In this ongoing class, we play math games and do other hands-on activities to make learning fun! I follow the Dimensions Math curriculum (a Singapore Math program), however students DO NOT need to be using the curriculum in order to benefit from the class. The activities provided in this class will supplement any math curriculum you are using. Singapore Math is a mastery-based approach to math, where students progress from concrete examples (real life), to pictures, and finally apply...
By the end of the Semester, students will know the following: -Adding & Subtracting 4-digit numbers -Place Value to 10,000 -Multiplication and Division of 2- and 3-digit numbers
I am a certified elementary teacher who has been teaching hands-on math to young children for over 20 years.
I assign optional workbook pages for the Dimensions Math 3A workbook to align with our activities each week.
I will provide downloadable activity supplies (number cards, recording sheets, etc.) if they are needed for the week's games. Many of the games require counters, number cards (playing cards work well), and dice, so having those on hand will be helpful. OPTIONAL MATERIALS: This class can be used as a supplement to any math program you are using at home, OR used to complete a math curriculum called Dimensions Math (Singapore Math). If you are using it to supplement what you are doing at home, you will not need the Dimensions Workbook. However, if you'd like to have your child practice what we are doing in class, you can purchase the workbook here: https://www.singaporemathshop.com/Dimensions_Math_Workbook_3A_p/dmw3a.htm We will be using mostly virtual manipulatives, but the following are useful, especially if you are using the Dimensions Math curriculum: Place Value Discs (at least 10 hundreds, 20 tens, and 30 ones, available here for $10: https://www.amazon.com/Learning-Resources-Place-Value-LER5215/dp/B01MQXYVRC Two 10-sided dice are also highly recommended, available here for about $7: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01959253Q/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=mindspark0f-20&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B01959253Q&linkId=0ede864e3145b1f149f5d096a7202a02
Students are assessed constantly during their work in class. Throughout the activities, we discuss our thinking and our strategies for approaching problems.
1 hour 10 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
