Description
Class Experience
Could your young Spanish-speaker benefit from practice with numbers? In this class designed for young children who are already advanced* in Spanish, we will have fun with math through games, stories, and songs centered around fun weekly themes. Kids who have not yet mastered either counting, number recognition, or adding up to ten are welcome to attend to practice these skills. We work with small numbers in a concrete and practical way using my shared screen and my felt board, plus a drawing...
This class is taught in Spanish.
I received a minor in the Spanish language with my bachelor degree (2011). Later I went on to complete the seven-week level 5 Spanish course at Roca Blanca Spanish School in Catalotepec, Mexico (2018). I have taught group Spanish classes to a variety of ages over a span of seven years, six of which have been online. In 2018-2019, I led a preschool co-op in Spanish, primarily to children who were already fluent. On Outschool I have taught an ongoing version of this preschool math course as well as other courses fully in Spanish, and still offer many as flex courses. Additionally, I have been raising my children primarily in Spanish since 2016. In fact, I created the original, ongoing version of this course for my older child, then four, to take part, and I am re-launching this course for my younger child turning three.
After each class, I provide an optional follow-up math worksheet related to that lesson's focus.
For week 2, learners will need to bring paper and their preferred drawing utensils to class.
25 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
In the song "Cinco monitos" (Five Little Monkeys) the alligator snatches the monkeys out of a tree (and seems to swallow them). One theme is monsters but focuses on cute monsters.
The stories used in this class are the instructor's inventions and stories the class creates together as a group. Songs sung in this class are composed of traditional Spanish-language songs in the public domain, traditional English-language songs in the public domain translated into Spanish, a traditional Chinese-language song in the public domain translated into Spanish, and the teacher's own inventions.
