Homework Offered
Here's a list of optional homework assignments for each session of a first-grade math class: Session 1: Introduction to Numbers - Counting Fun: Students count objects around their house (e.g., toys, books, apples) and write down the numbers. - Odd and Even Hunt: Have students find and circle odd and even numbers in a newspaper or magazine. Session 2: Addition within 10 - Number Hunt: Give students a list of numbers and ask them to find pairs that add up to 10 (e.g., 3 + 7, 4 + 6). - Picture Math: Provide pictures of objects and have students create addition sentences based on the pictures (e.g., 2 apples + 3 bananas). Session 3: Subtraction within 10 - Subtraction Stories: Have students create their own subtraction stories using everyday scenarios (e.g. If I had 8 candies and ate how many candies do I have left?). - Math Flashcards: Create simple subtraction flashcards for practice (e.g., 9 - 4, 7 - 2). Session 4: Shapes and Geometry - Shape Scavenger Hunt: Encourage students to find and draw objects around their house that match different shapes (e.g., a circle clock, or a square window). - Shape Sorting: Provide a set of shape cutouts and ask students to sort them into groups based on the number of sides. Session 5: Measurement - Measuring Adventures: Give students a ruler or non-standard measuring tool (e.g., paperclips) and ask them to measure the length of items in their home (e.g., a book, a shoe). - Tallest to Shortest: Have students compare the height of family members and list them from tallest to shortest.
