Math: Find the Missing Addends, Subtrahends, and Minuends

In this one time course, students will learn different ways to find the missing addend in addition problems and the missing subtrahends or minuends in subtraction problems.

Class Experience

Finding the missing addend, subtrahend, or minuend can be very challenging for students. In this one time course, we will practice different teaching strategies (making a picture, counting on, drawing a picture, part-part-whole) to find the missing addend (__ + 5 = 10) in addition problems. Then, we will practice different teaching strategies (making a picture, counting on, drawing a picture, part-part-whole) to find the missing subtrahends (12 - ___ = 5) and minuends (___ - 8 = 6) in...

Students will improve their understanding of different techniques for finding the missing addend, subtrahends, and minuends in addition and subtraction equations.

Optional worksheet will be send after class for students to practice these new concepts.

Students are encouraged to bring paper, and a writing utensil. They can also bring linking cubes, counters, or abacus if they have them.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

45 minutes per week in class, and no time outside of class.
