In this class, learners will be engaged in an interactive lesson that focuses on strengthening addition and subtraction fact fluency skills by learning how to use the Combinations of 10 strategy to Make 10 and then add some more (i.e. 8+5 is really 8+2 and then 3 more). Knowing how to use Combinations of 10 to Make 10 when adding is an important skill for basic fact fluency now as well as for future multi-digit addition and subtraction problems. Learners will strengthen their addition and subtraction fact fluency skills by learning specific strategies used to break down tougher math problems into smaller parts to solve problems more efficiently and accurately. Learners will learn how to: * use a ten frame and part-part-total model to solve problems more easily * identify what numbers combine to make 10 * learn how to use the Combinations of 10 strategy to Make 10 and then add some more * find key information in a word problem * solve word problems with a missing addend or sum * explain their mathematical thinking * interact with peers online
