Math Enrichment Camp for Lower Intermediate Students #1

This 5-day class is for 8 to 10 year old students who are ready to learn math information beyond their grade level standards. The instructor will be using the middle section of the Primary Grade Challenge Math book by Edward Zaccaro. This book allows learners to develop a deeper level of mathematical understanding and thinking skills, while nurturing a love of mathematics with fun pictures and explanations for concepts. Each chapter has questions that are broken down into four levels: Level 1 (easy) Level 2 (somewhat challenging) Level 3 (challenging) Einstein (very challenging). These levels allow students to feel success with a concept while questions get increasingly more difficult to challenge their thinking. Students who are highly successful in math often struggle with not knowing how to do something or how to ask for help, so this approach helps teach them strategies to deal with those feelings. The course will cover a new chapter each day for 5 day. Groups will be kept small to ensure personalized instruction.

Day 2: Making Smart Guesses- Probability, Ratios, Proportions
Day 3: What are these Strange Numbers- Negative Numbers
Day 4: Let's Share- Division
Day 5: How Far Away is it?- Distance= Speed x Time
