Class Experience

Students are expected to learn and understand many mathematical concepts during the first few years of school. This ongoing course is designed to allow students to review and confirm what they already know and/or to help them in areas in which they might need additional instruction. Each class will be delivered in a "stand alone" manner which will allow students to join in for a selected class or classes that interest them, or they may choose to take the entire series of six classes as an overall review of these concepts.

We will review different mathematical concepts each week. The classes will be structured around a PowerPoint presentation. During each class, we will collaboratively review material pertinent to the day's lesson. Then, I will teach the concepts that we will be covering that day. Next, I will demonstrate how to solve problems using the material that was just taught. Then, we will work out some problems together so that it all begins to make sense. Next, it will be the students’ turn to practice their skills. Finally, we will review the material learned and I will respond to any additional questions. In order for the students to keep track of everything that was covered, they should be prepared to document key facts taught during the presentation as well as many of the examples that will be done in class. That way, they will have excellent notes to refer to whether they choose to take just one class, a few classes, or all of the classes.

PLEASE NOTE: This six-week series will most likely repeat after the final date listed. Students may join at any time!

It is so exciting when a student understands something that they previously struggled with. I am hoping that this ongoing math class will help. I have compiled this list of concepts based upon my many years of both learning and teaching mathematics. I believe that it is so important for students to have the proper instruction, knowledge, tools, and practice prior to moving on to more difficult mathematical studies.

Learning Goals

Students will receive additional support each week in a variety of mathematical concepts.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My experience has been that students need to fully understand the basic math concepts taught in elementary school before they can be expected to tackle more difficult concepts in higher education. I love studying math, teaching math, and showing that different mathematical concepts can be useful.
