This ongoing Math Kangaroo preparation class is tailored for students in grades 1-2, featuring small groups of up to six learners to allow for a customized and focused approach. Each 45-minute session explores past Math Kangaroo questions, designed to help students familiarize themselves with the competition format. Sessions are structured to progress at a pace that meets the group’s needs, ensuring thorough understanding and growth. Throughout each class, students will learn problem-solving strategies specific to Math Kangaroo, discuss challenging questions, and gain practical experience in navigating this type of competition. Using interactive tools such as slides, guided discussion, and group problem-solving exercises, I’ll engage students in various learning styles. Participation and interaction are highly encouraged, and every class provides direct feedback and opportunities for students to share their thought processes. Week of Nov 4: Introduction to Math Kangaroo format; focus on basic problem types. Week of Nov 11: Review strategies for approaching complex questions; practice with past papers. Week of Nov 18: Dive into multi-step questions; highlight time management tips. Week of Nov 25: Mock test practice with timed questions, feedback, and reflections. This plan will cycle each month until competition day, adapting to students’ progress.

Pre-Requisites
Students should have a strong math foundation at school level to confidently engage with competition questions.
Supply List
In each class, we will review past Math Kangaroo questions by screen-sharing, so there’s no need for students to have printed copies during sessions. However, please note that digital copies of the past papers are not provided due to copyright restrictions. Parents can purchase official practice materials directly through the USA Math Kangaroo website at https://mathkangaroo.org/mks/practice/pdf-exams/ to support their child’s practice outside of class.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Ms. Indira holds a BSc degree in Microbiology and Biotechnology from Sheffield University and a MSc degree in Molecular Biology from Virginia Tech. She worked in a research lab before resigning to be a full-time mom. She’s been helping students with math, both as a friend (when she was in school herself) and now as a teacher. She loves math and wants to help children realize that math is fun.
Mr. William Xu graduated from the University of the Fraser Valley with a Bachelor of Science. He has been a tutor for over 5 years. He has helped more than 70 students in Mathematics and Statistics. He believes that every student has the potential to succeed and it's his job to provide a supportive and engaging learning environment that fosters growth and development.
Ms. Ala graduated from Western University with a Master’s Degree in Biology and a Bachelor's Degree with an Honours Specialization in Biology. She has been tutoring kids since she was in grade 10. Her passion for teaching started when she taught kids math at Saturday school in London, Ontario, and science at a one of the French Immersion Schools. She is now teaching Grade 12 Advanced Functions, Grade 11 Functions, Grade 12 Ontario Secondary School Literacy course and Science at a private high school in London, Ontario. Ms. Ala is a teacher who wants you to enjoy math as much as she does. She aims to make math a fun game rather than painful homework.
Ms. Krishika is currently studying for a Master of Education in Nova Scotia. She is an educator with over six years of teaching experience as a High School Math and Science teacher, employing innovative teaching techniques to create an inclusive and student-centered learning environment. She specializes in online Math tutoring utilizing interactive teaching techniques. She is well equipped to cater students of different learning styles and abilities by using personalized approaches to keep students engaged and enthusiastic in her lessons. Her passion to teach motivates her to go extra miles to facilitate learning for kids at different levels and competencies and help them achieve academic progress and success.
Ms. Tania is a Life Science and Physics student at the University of Toronto. She has been tutoring since high school and she is passionate about helping students excel academically. She loves working with children and finds great joy in helping them grow academically. She believes that learning math is essential for young minds, as it helps them develop strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Her approach focuses on breaking down complex concepts into manageable steps, allowing students to build a deeper understanding and improve their problem-solving skills. She tailors her lessons to each student’s needs, ensuring they gain both confidence and mastery in their studies.
