Math Club: Learn to Multiply Using the Japanese Method & Play Kahoot!

Welcome to math class where students will learn yet another way to solve for multiplication!

This class will teach your child how to multiply 2 digits by 2 digits by using the Japanese Multiplication Method. 

In order for students to be successful in this class they must understand the concept of adding and carrying numbers over to the next digit. For example, if we have 12 as our answer we must keep the 2 and carry the 1 to the 10s place. If students don’t know that then don’t worry as that will be taught in class. 

Students will near Kahoot for this class. Kahoot is a free website where all they need is a link or code to join and they’re in the game. If possible please have students take a separate device. A separate device is not needed, just recommended.

The Japanese Method of multiplication is a very fun method of solving for multiplication. The class will be structured in the following way:

15 min: introduction of topic 
10 min: students practice problems on paper
20 min: Play Kahoot to reinforce topic (4 minutes max per question)
5 min: Questions & Closing
