US Grade 5
This a fun and well-paced math club for learners to explore strategies, consolidate understanding, learn new concepts and clarify understanding. Learners will work through a selection of math problems targeted at Grade 5 / Year 6. This is an ongoing class which is fun and the aim is that children feel that they are making progress. We will study topics from number and their properties to fractions, decimals and percentages to measurement to solving problems. Check the dates - and join along the way! My aim is to encourage alongside math skill, the confidence to clarify understanding, how to express challenge and to learn mathematical vocabulary and apply it to their understanding and expression. I am a qualified primary school / elementary school teacher with many years of experience. I will model concepts and topics for students and work will be differentiated for students. After class there will be homework and I encourage interaction in the classroom where children can choose further questions to try and submit. Problems will be broken down step by step and my aim is to ensure children are on the road to demonstrating mastery in math. November 17th 2023 - The distributive law - addition and multiplication practice. What is a variable? Using the distributive law to understand expressions. More topics to come including - More about fractions and decimals, solving problems such as real life math problems, shape and space, capacity and measurement.

I have been teaching Year 6 and SATs for over ten years. I am an experienced classroom primary / elementary school teacher and head of year. I have taught in London, North Africa and the Middle East and am now based in the U.S. With many years of experience and enjoy helping children progress in their academic journey.
