Welcome to Math at the Movies! Get ready to have a blast as we dive into our favorite movies and explore math in a whole new way! Each session, we'll come together to chat about the movie and test our knowledge with some fun trivia. Then, we'll sharpen our math skills by solving word problems and riddles inspired by the film. But don't worry, we'll share the best strategies and techniques for tackling even the toughest challenges. To join the fun, all you need is a basic grasp of arithmetic and a love for movies! Make sure you've seen the featured film before each class, and, of course, feel free to bring some popcorn to snack on as we discuss! Check out our movie schedule - we've got some classics lined up: Week of 4/17/23: Matilda Week of 4/24/23: The Sandlot Week of 5/1/23: Dennis the Menace Week of 5/8/23: Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Week of 5/15/23: Rookie of the Year Week of 5/22/23: Little Rascals Join us for a math-tastic time filled with movies, popcorn, and endless fun!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello there! I am Leslie. I have worked in the field of education, in various capacities, for 15+ years. Currently, I am doing a little teaching mixed with some educational consulting. I am so excited to be on the Outschool platform with you and look forward to getting to know you and your child!
I love math! Math is my specialty. I have spent a significant amount of time in classrooms, working with teachers and students, and pouring over data to understand what works. I understand the components necessary for student success.
Mathematics is a complex subject that includes a variety of topics. It is a subject that is unforgiving. Concepts build upon one another. Mastery of each must be attained for students to be adequately prepared to move forward. A strong foundation of arithmetic mastery must be built early on for students to be successful in higher mathematics, yet many text books and math programs only gloss over these skills. This leaves our students feeling defeated and makes it very difficult. It creates a cycle that is often hard to break.
I want to help with that. I teach through a mastery-based approach and place a strong emphasis on building that sturdy foundation. It is my goal to not just help students understand individual concepts, but to embrace mathematics as a whole and realize that they can do hard things. It lights me up to see a child break through and really begin to master concepts - to develop a confidence that was never thought possible. My desire is to see students confidently pursue excellence - not only in mathematics, but in all that they do. I look forward to the opportunity to come alongside your child!
