Hello! Math at First Sight will be a series of math courses that involve some kind of visuals for each lesson. Some of these visuals will be hands-on visuals. In this particular course, students will be multiplying multi-digit decimal numbers and then using a cotton ball or pom-pom to act as the decimal. When we are done multiplying the numbers, we will physically move the decimal to its correct place. I will first model the concept several times for students, then I will guide them through a few problems as well. Through the guided lessons, students will then be able to participate in answering questions and interacting with each other. Finally, students will engage in independent work, where they will be prompted with math problems and be asked to solve them on their own. My goal is that, by the end of the lesson, we will be able to remove the visual and work without it. I'm so excited to get started and I hope to see your students in class!

Supply List
The learner will need some form of displaying their own work through the math problems. This may be a whiteboard and dry erase marker, or pencil and paper (if going this route, students will need multiple sheets of paper). I would like to be able to clearly see their work, so in using a pencil, the students will have to write dark. Students MUST have the freedom to erase with whatever tools they are using. Learners will also need either a cotton ball or a small colored pom-pom for class to act as the physical decimal.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Jessie Bethea! I teach preschool age students here on Outschool. My degree is in Elementary Education with a minor in Studio Art. This is my seventh year of teaching, and I have loved every minute of my journey as an educator! I have taught both in public and private schools, and have experience in second grade, fifth grade, elementary art, and special education. However, I have recently left the classroom to stay home with my two children and homeschool them. My children are aged 4 and 18 months old. I am now working from home to help support my family, while homeschooling my children. Outschool provides the perfect opportunity for me because I get to do what I love, while also being there for my babies. My teaching style is fun, hands-on, and lively. I love to make my students laugh and have fun. My favorite part about teaching is giving struggling students the support they need to succeed! I can't wait to meet my new students on this platform. I'll see you in the classroom!
