Class Experience

Students will practice the fundamental math concepts of estimating, counting, grouping, and sorting with the important art form of landscapes.
Integrating the arts with other subject matter helps improve students' comprehension and understanding of the subject, especially students with an artistic bent. Seeing how math is used in many ways can help struggling students come to an understanding and even begin to enjoy the subject.

I founded and operated a small private school with an arts-integrated curriculum. I've seen the enjoyment this way of teaching has brought to some students. I love teaching this way!
Create your Cerealscape! Students will be encouraged to create their cerealscape at the end of the lesson and then submit a picture of their artwork to me after they are finished. (Some students may complete their picture during the class. If that is the case, we will then do the worksheet together. )
A one-page recording sheet. Parent Supplies: 1 piece of construction paper (preferably 9x12"; blue, green, black, brown) Crayons Various shapes of dry cereal (4-5 different kinds would be ideal but making sure you have cereal of different shapes is the best.)
The recording sheet gives a quick student assessment as to their current stage of number-sense development.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Depending on the student, some younger students may require some assistance with the worksheet at the end.
