In this 4 week class we will explore 4 different ancient number systems and the history behind them. Students will learn how to write and read the Mayan number system and will be given materials to practice. Students will have the opportunity to share their work and allow other students to decode their work. Each week the students will be part of a presentation that will involve interaction and discussion about the different ways ancient civilizations have developed number systems. If we have time we will also learn about the Shang Oracle System Week 1: Mayan number system Week 2: Babylonian number system Week 3: Egyption number system Week 4: Comparing the Mayan, Babylonian and Egyption number systems. This final day of the course will be an interactive session of comparing number systems.

I will provide handouts. We will potentially do the presentation on nearpod through zoom. This does not require a login.
