Class Experience

Beginner Level
✅ Algebra 1 formalizes and extends students’ understanding and application of functions. Students primarily explore linear functions (as well as linear piecewise, absolute value, and step functions), quadratic functions, and exponential functions. Within these parent functions, students develop a deep understanding of the features of each function—graphically and algebraically—and use these to guide creation of models and analysis of situations. This information is from fishtanklearning.com.

🔴 This class will be conducted entirely online. Each week, students will complete activities designed to enhance their math skills and knowledge. Interactive tasks will be submitted to the teacher, who will provide feedback through messages, recordings, and other formats. A significant advantage of this flexible class is that learners can take as much time as they need to review the activities.

The order in which the topics are covered is subject to change at the instructors discretion but this will not affect the curriculum covered.

● Class Structure/Experience: Each week, students will learn and practice new concepts. On Fridays, I will review their submissions and provide individualized feedback to ensure they are mastering the material.

● Teaching Style: Student-Centered! Expect numerous interactive activities, games, and discussions. Research shows that a student-centered instructional model is essential for effective learning!

● Interaction Level: Medium to High! Students will have the opportunity to engage with me via their learner chat. Ensuring the safety of my learners is my top priority. All interactive activities are carefully selected to maximize learning while maintaining a safe environment.

Parental Guidance
External resources will be used to enhance learning. These resources will be used during class time via screen share or during independent work time. Some external resources used will require student accounts which will be activated and assigned by the teacher at no additional cost to you. The teacher will assign generic (no personal identifiers) username/passwords for each student. The student will only have access to their generic accounts while enrolled in my course. All external resources have been vetted and approved to be appropriate for learning. External Resource: Google Slides.
