1 hour per week. Homework assignments will consist of problem sets for each lesson, designed to reinforce and apply the concepts learned. These problem sets will include a variety of question types, such as multiple-choice, short answer, or real-world application problems. Frequency: Homework will be assigned after each lesson to ensure continuous practice and understanding. Given the self-paced nature of the course, students are encouraged to complete the problem sets promptly to keep up with the material. Checking for Correctness: After submitting their homework, students will receive feedback within 12-24 hours on their work. Each assignment will be reviewed for accuracy, and detailed explanations will be provided for any incorrect answers to help students learn from their mistakes. Submission and Communication: Students are required to submit their homework assignments through the online platform. Once an assignment is completed, students should comment on the platform to notify the teacher of their submission. This helps ensure timely review and feedback.Assessment
At the end of the module, students will complete a comprehensive assessment covering all the topics learned, including ratios, equivalent ratios, rates, and unit rates. This will include a mix of multiple-choice questions, short answers, and problem-solving tasks that apply real-world scenarios. Frequency: End-of-Module Assessment: This is a summative assessment conducted once, at the end of the module.Grading
Homework Assignments: Grading for homework assignments will be provided upon parent request. This allows parents to monitor their child's progress and understanding of the material if they choose to do so. Module Assessment: The end-of-module assessment will be graded with a letter grade for all students. This provides a clear and standardized measure of each student's mastery of the concepts taught in the module. Provision of Grades: By Request for Homework: Parents who wish to receive grades for their child's homework can request this from the teacher. These grades will reflect the student's understanding and effort on individual problem sets.Class Experience
US Grade 5 - 7
Beginner - Intermediate Level
In this class, students will learn about ratios and rates by extending their prior knowledge of fractions and fraction equivalence. They will understand how to express and solve problems using ratios, equivalent ratios, rates, and unit rates. How is your class structured? The class is structured as a self-paced online course, allowing students to progress through the material at their own speed. Each module builds upon the previous one, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of each concept. How will you teach? Use a variety of online resources to keep the lessons engaging and dynamic. This includes: - Interactive video lectures with visual aids - Online hands-on activities where students create their own ratios and rates - Educational games and quizzes that reinforce key concepts - Real-world examples to show the practical applications of ratios and rates What's your teaching style? My teaching style is interactive and student-centered. I aim to make math relatable and enjoyable by connecting it to real-life scenarios. Foster a growth mindset, and celebrate both small and large successes to build confidence and enthusiasm in math. Students can ask questions and seek help through the online platform, where I will provide timely feedback and support. I will communicate each week, and also communicate within 12-24 hours of time if there is a question a student may have. Each week will cover a new skill so the class will typically take 8 weeks to complete.
Learning Goals
By the end of the module, students will be able to: understand and create ratios, identify and generate equivalent ratios, solve problems using ratio reasoning, understand and apply rates and unit rates, and apply ratio and rate reasoning to everyday situations.
