Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 8
This course provides an opportunity for students to master Pre-Algebra. Part of a four-course series, this is a great way to learn essential math concepts and the basics of algebra, perfect for homeschoolers or as extra enrichment.

Courses in our Math 7 Pre-Algebra series meet live over Zoom three times per week, covering one or two topics in depth each week. Using a virtual whiteboard, teachers guide students through an introduction to core concepts, practice, and application problems for each topic. We use practice packets with guided notes from FlippedMath.com, and students are expected to complete the practice packets for homework each week.

As with all our classes at Twin Oaks Learning Collective, we strive for mastery while keeping our courses fun and engaging. This course is tailored to meet Common Core standards while also including warm-ups and activities that get students stretching their math muscles in ways that target creativity and problem-solving.

The standard order of four-course series is listed below. Courses A and B should always be taken first (unless the student is already proficient at those skills), but the other courses are independent enough that most students will be fine taking those in either order.

Course A: Foundations
Course B: Equations and Inequality
Course C: Proportions and Probability
Course D: Data and Geometry
